f.a.q.

frequently asked questions. last updated 10/5/2022.

  • How do you pronounce your username?

Just like "quo" in the phrase "status quo!" The extra "q" at the beginning and "e" at the end is just extra flavor (and to meet the requirements of 5 letters in a username minimum haha) but doesn't add to the pronunciation.

  • Are your commissions open? / Do you have any open commission slots?

As of this moment I am taking a break from accepting new commission work and have a waitlist form open in the meantime. Check my Twitter for any status updates or commission news! In the event my commissions are closed, my Twitter and Carrd will be updated accordingly. Click to view my waitlist form.

  • Are you available for larger scale projects?

As flattered as I am, I am too busy to take on any large scale projects (such as games) due to already having a full time job and other online / life commitments. If it is not something found in my commission information, it is likely that I may not be able to do it. However, you are free to contact me with the details you have in mind to be sure.If you are asking for anything related to NFTs, or with any connection to cryptocurrency, I will not respond. My answer is simply no.

  • What program do you use?

For pixel art I use Paint Tool SAI 2! To upscale and animate I use PhotoShop, but hope to become familiar with Aseprite as well.
For digital art I use Procreate. I have previously used Clip Studio Paint and SAI for digital work.
Due to the nature of my work, I am also comfortable with the use of Illustrator, InDesign, and some PhotoShop capabilities. I am briefly familiar with XD and AfterEffects.

  • What tools do you use?

For pixel art I use a Wacom Intuos Pro Small (model PTH-451). I've had it since 2015.
For digital art I use a 12.9-inch iPadPro (2nd generation) and a 1st generation apple pencil. I've had both since 2017.

  • What brushes do you use?

For pixel art I use SAI's "Binary Tool" (Ver. 1) and take advantage of pressure sensitivity as I use a tablet.
For digital art I do the majority of my work (sketching and rendering) using Max Ulichney's "Sketch Marker Round" brush from their Comics MaxPack. Other brushes I use or recommend are the "Honey" brush from the All-Star Procreate Pack, the brush "Soft Chalk" from Jingsketch's Brush Collection, and Marmastry's Brush Set.

  • How long have you been drawing?

I have been drawing as long as I've known, but really picked it up when I was between the ages 8-10. I only began taking it more seriously when I turned 18-19. I started doing digital art when I was 13-14, and started pixels a few years after. I stopped doing pixels back in 2016-2017, and picked it back up back in May 2022.

  • Have you gone to school for art?

While I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design, it is a practice separate from that of illustration. Though I did have art related classes while getting my degree, for the work seen on my socials I am majority self-taught.

  • Don't see a question you'd like answered?

terms of service

While I understand my TOS is a bit of a read, I implore that you read through it thoroughly. It covers important information regarding every step of the commission process - before, during, and after.

Last Updated: 10/5/2022Please familiarize yourself with my terms of service before commissioning! By emailing me, or filling out my waitlist form, with the intent to commission me, you are confirming you have read, understood, and accepted my full terms of service. Terms are subject to change without notice.Click to quickly navigate to a section of my TOS:

⇣ notes

I am a fairly busy person! I work full time and have other life commitments which limits my free time. However, I will work to complete commissions as soon as I am able. Commissions may take up to 2-3 months to complete. (Note that this time duration is under the assumption of a one time payment, and does not apply to to those opting for a payment plan. Any additional reference to this time duration is also under this assumption.)I will not draw NSFW, mecha, or anthro. Fanart is accepted on a case-to-case basis, but will not be considered if it's for a series I am unfamiliar with. I currently have difficulty in drawing aged and large or muscled characters, as well as animals - but will do my best in drawing them. I will not respond to anything related to NFTs or cryptocurrency.I am most comfortable with original characters. If I draw couples, interactions will be mild (hand holding, hugging, affectionate gazes, etc) and nothing more.During times where my waitlist is open, any instructions given there will take precedence.I reserve the right to decline any commission request without explanation.

⇣ ordering

To commission, email me at [email protected]. All commission emails are expected to be sent with any appropriate forms, links, or attachments. (Review my Form Guide for what information is expected for each commission type.) By emailing me with the intention to commission me, you are confirming you have read, understood, and accepted my full terms of service. I will typically respond within 1–7 days.If you are interested in multiple types of commissions, or multiple of the same commission type, it is expected each form will be filled out individually for each.It is expected for the commissioner to provide the information requested in the Form Guide. Failure to fill out the commission form in full and with necessary information may be cause for me to not respond. After I receive a commission request I will:

  • Sort out any outstanding questions or requests.

  • Provide a quote and its breakdown alongside confirmation to move forward.

At this point, if you are unable or no longer interested in commissioning me, inform me. If you are interested in a payment plan, this will be your final opportunity to request a payment plan (available only for orders $100 and above).Once the commission has been confirmed to move forward, I will:

  • Send an invoice through PayPal. Your commission and status will then be added on my to do list.

  • Once paid, or alongside an email informing of the sent invoice, I will state how WIPs will work for your particular commission.

  • If I am able, a rough estimation for when the next WIP will be ready for review.

⇣ payment

In regards to payment, recognize the following:

  • Payment is PayPal only. I am not open to other forms of payment such as art or exposure.

  • You must be the owner of the PayPal account.

  • Prices are in USD.

  • For orders $100 or below, payment is required in full before I begin.

  • Payment plans are available for orders above $100. You must inform me before an invoice is sent if you are interested in a payment plan.. A 2, 3, or 4 month plan can be selected. View below for more information.

  • Each payment is final, no refunds.

  • Only pay through the invoice sent to you. Invoice will only be sent after price is confirmed through email.

  • If payment is not sent within 1 week of the outgoing invoice, this is means for the commission to be cancelled. You will be informed if this is the case. Should this be repeated on multiple occasions, it may be cause to reject any future commission requests.

Payment plans are available for commissions above $100:

  • If the above requirement is met and you are interested in a payment plan, you must inform me before an invoice is sent. If not specified, I will assume that it will be a one time payment.

  • Depending on the duration of the payment plan, the expected payment percentages differ as seen below. If you anticipate being able to pay more than the expected minimums shown below at any given time, inform me in advance.

  • 2 months: 50% / 50%

  • 3 months: 50% / 25% / 25% or 40% / 30% / 30%

  • 4 months: 40% / 20% / 20% / 20%

  • WIPs will differ when a payment plan is in place. The next WIP phase will only be started upon the next round of payment. This means the progress of a commission will be dependent upon payment progress. (For example, the first payment was received so a sketch will be completed. The next WIP - say, lineart - will not be done without the next payment having been received first.) Only when the commission is paid in full will the work be completed and / or files be shared. If more than one commission is in place at a time, this rule applies across the board. View WIPs for more information.

  • Failure to pay in full will be cause to reject future commission requests by the commissioner, and may be cause to be permanently banned.

The following/add-ons may be cause for an additional charge:

  • Animation requests. Such requests are limited to minor movements (blinking, ear twitch, expression change, etc). Depending on the commission type and the amount of requested animations, it may cost $5-$20+ more / each. Animation is limited to pixel commissions.

  • Additional characters are $10 less than the base commission price. (i.e. 1 pixel fullbody is $75. A second pixel fullbody on the same canvas would be $65, totaling $140.) Note: not all commission types may be open for multiple characters (such as pixel icons).

  • Detailed character designs. Depending on complexity, up to a $50 charge may be added. This charge may depend on commission type and medium (pixel / digital). This charge is more likely for digital commissions than pixel commissions.

  • Minimal background elements and props, if not already included in a commission type. (Note that this is different than full background, which are more suited as a part of pixel overlay screens.) Full backgrounds are unavailable for digital art.

  • Requesting work to be done by a specific date and if it means the commissioned work will need to be rushed / prioritized over other commissions. This cost is determined on a case to case basis.

  • Consistent revisions. See Revisions.

  • Requests to not have the artwork shared publicly.

⇣ communication

Official communication surrounding the commission will purely take place through email. Should you contact me outside of email in regards to a commission request, you will be eventually be redirected to my email. You may DM me with questions you might have before placing an official commission request.Contacting me requesting updates is allowed within reason. I expect the commissioner to respect my schedule and time. Any excessive requests for updates will be ignored unless I have a WIP to provide (view WIPs). Excessive, pressurizing, or immature contact may be a means for me to decline any future commissions or be a cause to reject revisions. If I have shared a WIP and I have not received a response within 1 week, I am eligible to send another email. This will continue for up to 1 month at 1 week intervals. If I am not responded to by 1 month, no further communication will be initiated by me until a response is provided.

⇣ works in progress (wips)

Depending on the commission type, my process alters slightly. After the commission has been paid for, or when an invoice has been sent, I will provide information on WIPs. Should you have any questions about the WIP stages, you may ask about them at the time it is shared.

Information about WIPs will include:

  • How WIPs will be split up for the type of commission you have requested. This may include sketches, linework, base colors, partial render, pre-animation, etc.

  • If you requested a payment plan WIPs will be outlined dependent on the payment plan schedule alongside the commission type.

  • What degree of revisions will be allowed during each WIP phase. This can vary from larger edits to minimal edits. Should you wish to request revisions, please review Revisions.

WIPs will be sent and can be viewed as email attachments. These can range from screenshots or direct file uploads. When an email with a WIP is shared, ensure that you read the entirety of the email. I often express thoughts or concerns I would appreciate being addressed. For single payment commissions: the commission will not be worked on further until a WIP is confirmed to move forward. Please note that delays made by the commissioner (delayed responses, number of revisions, etc) may cause a delay in the commission turnaround time and be a cause to go beyond the expected 2-3 month maximum turnaround. For commissions with payment plans: the commission will not be worked on further until a WIP is confirmed and the next round of payment has been received. Information surrounding what WIPs will align with which payments will be stated with you in advance. You may opt out of seeing WIPs if you prefer, but I must be informed beforehand. If this is the case, allowed revisions are minimal.

⇣ revisions

Be as thorough as you can when reviewing WIPs! Within each WIP stage, revisions will only be allowed within reason. Extensive or fundamental changes may only be requested during the first WIP (such as altering a pose slightly, changing an outfit, or making sure important character details are not lost) and not later on. The degree of allowed revisions per each WIP phase will be stated in advance. The commissioner is responsible for relaying important information regarding specific details of the character that should not be missed. If the commissioner is not thorough in their initial request, it may be cause for revision(s) to be declined.Should revisions be requested beyond a total of 3 times, no matter the WIP stage, additional charges may be required. You will be informed if this is the case. Additional charge is determined on a case to case basis.Solid background color, should it apply to the commission type, can be changed once without counting towards the 3 total revisions.Complete redraws will not be performed for free. If you would like the commission to start from scratch, payment for work already done must be paid first. For example, if at the sketch phase you would like to change characters, I must be compensated separately for the sketch done. This way I will be paid for the work I had already done alongside the initial and intended commission type/request.Revisions that go against my stylistic choices will not be made. I will not create work emulating another artist’s style.

⇣ deliverables

Commissions may take up to 2-3 months to complete when a payment plan is not in place. The start date begins on the date the commission is paid for, not from when the initial commission email was sent. All final commission deliverables will be shared through a Google Drive link. Please save your commission as soon as you are able, as I may remove the file(s) without notice. The folder will be shared directly with your email. Any updates to the shared folder, particularly allowing anyone else access, is prohibited.Pixel commissions that are static will be delivered as PNGs. Pixel commissions that are animated will be delivered as GIFs. You will be provided specified upscale versions. Versions with and without my signature will be provided. If animated, animated and static versions will be provided.Digital commissions will be delivered as JPEGs. Versions with and without my watermark will be provided.

⇣ permissions & copyright

Commissioned work is for personal, non-commercial use only. The only exception to this rule are Twitch or Discord related commissions which are limited to the use of their intended purpose.I have full rights over my artwork. While the artwork is a paid commission, it does not grant the commissioner the right to sell the artwork in any form or use it in any way as means for monetary gain. This includes, but is not limited to, physical merchandise of any kind.Commissioner may not edit, trace, recolor, or claim commissioned work as their own for any reason whatsoever.I reserve the right to post the commissioned artwork on my social media.Clients are not permitted, under any circumstances, to use any part of the commissioned work for non fungible tokens. Use of the artwork for any advertising or profits associated with non fungible tokens or cryptocurrency is strictly prohibited.Commissioner may not repost artwork on any site without explicit permission from me first. This excludes sites built for displaying artwork of characters or creating character bios, such as toyhou.se, with the understanding that credit is required. If shared on these sites such as toyhou.se, it must be the version of the commission which shows my watermark or signature. If the commissioner wants to have commissioned work as their icon on social media, permission is not required, but credit is expected.Twitch commissions may be delivered with a file that can be shared on the commissioner's socials. If it is not included, it can be requested. If it is included, the commissioner can assume they are able to share that image on their socials. If it is unclear which file this might be, double check with me. When shared, credit is expected. Additional images to be shared on socials may be discussed if necessary.Should a commissioner violate anything written here, or any other part of my TOS, it may be cause to not accept future commission requests.

character/outfit design | $100+

  • done digitally, not with pixels!

  • the base cost includes a clean sketch of the character/design with base colors seen from the front and one other angle (angle is defined as a back view, side view, or an alternative variation of the outfit). any design notes or comments will be made as necessary. What this angle is can be determined after seeing the initial design from the front. +$40 per additional angle.

  • If interested in understanding how an outfit layers / having a more in-depth reference sheet of the outfit, it will be an additional 50-75+, depending on the nature of the details. Layers may only be seen at front/back angles.

  • Additional angle and in-depth reference sheet options can be discussed after the initial completion of a design. At which it will be considered a separate charge / commission.

  • to design a whole character, and not just an outfit, the base cost will be $150 instead of $100.

  • if interested in using the outfit design for a streaming persona, the base cost will instead be $200. if designing a streaming persona from scratch, the base price becomes $250. please note this is only for the design! as it is a clean sketch in nature, the artwork would not be prepared or appropriate for the use of rigging.

  • note: designs featuring revealing clothing, are armor heavy, or is a request I otherwise feel I cannot go through with, I will inform you.
